The government has launched a public consultation on the Private Parking Code of Practice, seeking views on proposals to raise standards across the private parking industry, ahead of preparing a new code of practice. The consultation is open until 5 September 2025.
This wide-ranging review focuses on several key areas that could significantly affect the private parking sector, operators, landowners, and the public alike.
Key areas being reviewed:
- The future of the £100 cap on parking charges
- Whether the £70 debt recovery fee should continue
- The introduction of mandatory grace periods for drivers
- Enhanced clarity on signage, payment options, appeals, and technical issues like machine faults or signal loss
At Agena Group, we welcome efforts to improve consistency, clarity, and fairness across the industry. As one of the UK’s leading parking management providers, Agena supports the approach being taken by Government and welcomes this fresh approach to consultation. We will support with an evidence-backed response and provide critical insights to ensure a well-informed policy decision can be taken.
